oops - maybe you should try the real hostname (as found in you /etc/hosts
file!)

	ypbind -s -S XXXXXX,<HOSTNAME>

instead of localhost.

What do your logs say?
Consider activating all.log in /etc/syslog.conf:

*.* /var/log/all.log
