Sorry if this topic may be beaten to death, BUT as some may remeber the newbies list was allowed to come into existence as long as there were no technical questions asked here. One of the reason being a simple one. Suppose you're a newbie who all the sudden has to administer the FreeBSD server at your work. You got the job because you can always answer Windows questions. Anyways the server is pretty simple, sendmail, apache, nothing really big. Until it goes down an people can't get their e-mail. Who would you rather be answering your questions? The person who installed FreeBSD for the first time yesterday? Or somebody who has been in the same boat as you? One of the biggest arguments against the creation of this list was the chance that a newbie would get the wrong advice with no one knowledgeable enough around to say 'No, that's not right!' Now, as for the 'super-geek' attitude that someone else mentioned. Usually when something like that comes out it's because the question is either worded in a hostile way, (as may be the answer,) one or the other person could be venting frustration quite by accident. (I KNOW I've done so,) or it could be the simple error in tone inherent in E-mail. The fact remains that -questions is still and always will be the place to ask any technical questions. This list is meant to point people to places to find the answer, a place to vent frustrations or just generally chat about what 'we' as newbies would be interested in.
