I would like that too.  It is a bummer if the upgrade caused it to not 
work on some people's systems.

As for the ports freeze, don't worry about it, I hereby give you an
unconditional extension to fix this even after the freeze.  (But it
won't help if it's after the real release, so please hurry. ;)
