The fix for this (for me, at least), hinted at by http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-ports/2012-September/078439.html, is to change line 233 of ports/mail/postfix/Makefile from:

BROKEN=                        Compile with Cyrus SASL to use LDAP_SASL

to:

POSTFIX_CCARGS+=        -I${LOCALBASE}/include/sasl
