Assume nothing. :-)

Try watching mbuf utilization while you're running nmap, ideally in
another xterm or on another console.  You can do this with:

	while true; do netstat -m ; sleep 1 ; done

Once you have a screen's worth of data, watching the output should get
easier on the eyes. :-)

Particularly, watch the "mbufs in use" ratio.
