FYI, I found this on the DDD web page (answering the LessTiff question)

   Will DDD be liberated from Motif? We have tested DDD with LessTif
   0.75a, a free Motif clone. With a few simple fixes, the resulting DDD
   is quite satisfying. 

And yes fixes is a link to the necessary fixes.
