The result: X server crashes. Here are more specifics. * I am running 4.8-stable, CVSUPped from a 4.7 stable install. * I performed a portupgrade on X and on KDE successfully before this. * I have an Athlon XP 1.533 GHz processor, 2x256 MB 266 MHz RAM and a KXP400+ Pro mobo. * X runs fine on the default "nv" driver that comes with X. * I used Make Setup while running X the first time without realizing it until after I hit "enter". The build and install process was so fast I didn't have time to try to stop it. * The XF86Config file works fine if I comment out two lines and change "nvidia" back to "nv". * I attempted "make clean && make setup" while not running the X server after I realized what I had done, and that it was not working as a normal user or as root. Process seemed to succeed, but errors remained the same. * Reboot did not help. * Turning on/off "PnP OS" in BIOS did nothing. * Same errors as user or root. Here is a script of the error message I get: Script started on Wed Jul 30 03:32:07 2003 primus# startx Using authority file /root/.Xauthority Writing authority file /root/.Xauthority xauth: (argv):1: bad display name "primus.earthlink.net:0" in "list" command Using authority file /root/.Xauthority xauth: (stdin):1: bad display name "primus.earthlink.net:0" in "add" command XFree86 Version 4.3.0 Release Date: 27 February 2003 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.6 Build Operating System: FreeBSD 4.8 i386 [ELF] Build Date: 09 July 2003 Before reporting problems, check http://www.XFree86.Org/ to make sure that you have the latest version.
