I'll disable verbosity mode. :) I understand that the size of commit log messages should be tempered by good judgement. And that this one could be smaller but sometimes these are necessary so that context can be understood. What about some guidelines for commit verbosity? Specially for newcommers. 1) Golden Rule: if it's a simple change, it is a small message; 2) do not write in 20 lines what you can in less than 10. Most commits do not need that much; 3) once again, do not write in 20+ lines what you can in less than 20. Usually, 20 is more than you need; 4) if you are not sure, it is probably not that important; 5) do not use as much verbosity as you would on your local CVS. "Project resources are by no means unlimited and committers have to justify usage of those resources wisely."[1] 6) if you are sure, please refer to (1-5) to be certain; 7) if you still judge you need it, disconsider all previous guidelines. After all, these are all sugestions, not written in stone laws. Perhaps something like this could go in the committers' handbook.
