Hi, Many monitors appear to be in power-save mode when in fact they have shut= down because they can't display a particular mode. Instead of pressing = ctrl-alt-del try switching the monitor off for a minute or so, and then see if the = display comes back when you switch it on again. Are you using the exact same version of XFree86 under SuSE? Oh, and please use shorter lines ;) John.
