As another datapoint in the issue, I had a look into the scheme SunOS-5.7 uses: mcontext_t includes: - a description of the CPU registers - a description of the FPU registers - no other extensions, no mechanism to turn the FPU status visibilty off. The FPU description is a union of two plain byte arrays, one for hardware FPU, one for the emulator, plus space for the Weitek chips.
