Probably a caveat with trying to build 5.x on a > 4.x machine but I didn't see anything in special instructions (UPDATING) or > on the web about this. Without further detailed information about the nature of the problem the best candidate is that you have a local configuration problem of some kind on your system (e.g. invalid CFLAGS or other settings, corrupted source tree, extra non-system headers incorrectly installed in /usr/include, etc). If you want more help, please provide more details about what precisely you are doing and what precisely happens as a result. Kris ---- Perhaps re-reading my original message would be in order. I only did the buildword as a LAST RESORT, because I couldn't get the CD sets of 5.[234] to do anything useful. I gave precise descriptions of what happened on 5.[234] and can provide more details if requested, but so far everyone is focusing on the buildworld which is not my concern. I'm not going to retry that effort until someone can convince me that the 5.[234] boot images are helplessly broken on my machine and the only way to boot 5.x is to build from source with some kind of patches. Anyone knowledgeable about the BTX/boot loader changes that occured between 4.10 and 5.4 should be able to help me out. I eagerly await someone to speak up on this topic. Any further correspondence about fixing my broken buildworld will be ignored. -- Matt Emmerton
