You have a problem with you initialization string, probably. Maybe it sounds crazy, but it happened to me once. This init string is way too sensitive. Try NOT typing the commands, but using a string from another .conf.sample file. If all fails, try using this: http://www.nettaxi.com/citizens/E.Brandi/ppp.conf this is a file from a tutorial I set up, but it is in portuguese... (the tutorial, not the file.) This file surely works !
