You should check out MuPAD. http://math-www.uni-paderborn.de/MuPAD/ It's free for non-commercial institutions and there's a FreeBSD package for it at MuPAD. I've used it a little bit. It's not a perfect replacement for my uses for Mathematica, but it's still nice.
