I am jinxed. I fought the "Timed out while idle" with and adaptec 3940 for a month and finally ditched it a day before Justin posted the sequencer file and got a Diamond Fireport 40. Played with termination/cables for weeks with a 2.2 6/29 snapshot. Reinstalled 2.2.5 (had a CD handy) with the Diamond Fireport 40, ran some bonnie test for a few hours, and put my cacheing server live today. After about 8 hours this happens (chunks of dmesg output below). Lovely error message is after Drives/controllers. ------------- Drives/controllers -------------------------- ncr0 <ncr 53c875j fast20 wide scsi> rev 4 int a irq 9 on pci0:4 ncr0 waiting for scsi devices to settle (ncr0:1:0): "SEAGATE ST15230W SUN4.2G 0738" type 0 fixed SCSI 2 sd0(ncr0:1:0): Direct-Access sd0(ncr0:1:0): WIDE SCSI (16 bit) enabled sd0(ncr0:1:0): 20.0 MB/s (100 ns, offset 15) 4095MB (8386733 512 byte sectors) (ncr0:2:0): "QUANTUM VIKING 4.5 SCA 880R" type 0 fixed SCSI 2 sd1(ncr0:2:0): Direct-Access sd1(ncr0:2:0): WIDE SCSI (16 bit) enabled sd1(ncr0:2:0): 40.0 MB/s (50 ns, offset 16) 4345MB (8899737 512 byte sectors) ahc0 <Adaptec 2940 SCSI host adapter> rev 3 int a irq 11 on pci0:5 ahc0: aic7870 Single Channel, SCSI Id=7, 16 SCBs ahc0 waiting for scsi devices to settle (ahc0:0:0): "SEAGATE ST15230W SUN4.2G 0738" type 0 fixed SCSI 2 sd2(ahc0:0:0): Direct-Access 4095MB (8386733 512 byte sectors) ------- Lovely error message ------------ ncr0:2: ERROR (0:18) (1-21-302) (10/9d) @ (script 6cc:19000000). ncr0: script cmd = 89030000 ncr0: regdump: da 10 80 9d 47 10 02 0f 03 01 82 21 80 00 01 19. ncr0: have to clear fifos. ncr0: restart (fatal error). sd1(ncr0:2:0): COMMAND FAILED (9 ff) @f0eac400. ncr0: timeout ccb=f0eac400 (skip) ncr0: timeout ccb=f0eac800 (skip) - Barrett Richardson rabtter@orion.aye.net To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-scsi" in the body of the message
