I don't have a Mac, but you could try this if you haven't. Add this options somewhere at the top of
your previously working xorg.conf:

Section "ServerFlags"
  Option  "AllowEmptyInput" "off"
  Option  "AutoAddDevices" "off"
EndSection

Restart X.
