There's "TELNET", which Doug is referring to, which is one of the basic TCP/IP services, and then there's "Telenet(tm)", which is (or was, I think it's defunct) some kind of online service that was used in the private sector before the Internet became widespread. Telenet, from what I've read, seems to have been something a little like Prodigy or AOL. The timeframe here was early- to mid-80's. I seem to remember a brief mention of Telenet in Cliff Stoll's book "The Cuckoo's Egg", which was set in 1985-86. > > Doug White | University of Oregon > Internet: dwhite@resnet.uoregon.edu | Residence Networking Assistant > http://gladstone.uoregon.edu/~dwhite | Computer Science Major > > > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org > with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Jeffrey Dunitz | Current Job: | orpheus@avalon.net BOFH Emeritus, Avalon Networks | Network Engineer | Iowa City, IA http://www.avalon.net/~orpheus | EXi Corporation | (319) 339-8268 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
