There's "TELNET", which Doug  is referring to, which is one of the basic
TCP/IP services, and then there's "Telenet(tm)", which is (or was, I think 
it's defunct) some kind of online service that was used in the private sector
before the Internet became widespread. Telenet, from what I've read, seems
to have been something a little like Prodigy or AOL. The  timeframe here 
was early- to mid-80's. I seem to remember a brief mention of Telenet in
Cliff Stoll's book "The Cuckoo's Egg", which was set in 1985-86.
