Hello everybody, now I installed russian/openoffice-1.1 port, version OO-1.1.1RC1. System: FreeBSD-5.2.1-p2, XFree86-4.4.0, locale ru_RU.KOI8-R. My experiments with russian showed, that working in pure text (saving in text format): 1. Encoding koi8-r saving and reopenning -- yes. 2. Encoding win1251, save as "encoded text" -- russian letters in text file replaced by "?". Opening file in true win1251 is not working. 3. Encoding dos (866 code page), save as "encoded text" -- OO uses wrong translation table. i.e. OO reopen text file and shows the original text in russian, but text file on disk is not in dos/866CP. Opening file in true dos/866CP is not working. Further experiments with converting russian words in SXW, DOC and RTF formats (open in one and save in another): 1. From SXW to DOC - yes, to RTF - no. 2. From DOC to SXW - yes, to RTF - yes. 3. From RTF to SXW - no/yes, to DOC - no/yes. (no/yes I'll explain later) The effect of wrong russian encoding (my two days ago letter) after saving new file in RTF format does exist. I found workaround -- save new blank file in RTF format, close, reopen it. Then russian is OK in further saving, reopening. Time to explain "no/yes" results. In starting new file, saving it in RTF format, then saving in other (DOC, SXW) format, the encoding in file on disk becomes wrong. But if use my "workaround", saving in other formats are good. What am I to do? WBR, Boris -- bsam
