Huh?   No, what *was* said that for the .01% performance increase on
slow hardware it isn't worth the extra complexity it gives to the
entire code-base.

If you need it faster, use a faster processor.  This is just good
engineering.  Optimization is only done if positively affects the
majority of your users.
