Have a look in Appendix A of the handbook for cvsup - you use this to update your ports directories. <http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/cvsup.html> Once you have updated your ports you will find perl 5.8.7 there. Sounds like the perl-5.8.7.tbz file is the pre-built package - try pkg_add perl-5.8.7.tbz You can find more info on packages in chapter 4.4 at - <http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/packages-using.ht ml> On 30/8/05 2:08 AM, "Rob MacGregor" <freebsd.macgregor@blueyonder.co.uk> wrote: > On Monday, August 29, 2005 5:14 PM, Gawie Marais (Home) <> unleashed the > infinite monkeys and produced: > >> Hi >> >> We are trying to install a package on freeBSD that requires Perl 5.8.7 >> >> Is there any way to install Perl 5.8.7 through the ports as the latest >> version I can install is Perl 5.8.5 >> >> If that is the latest version available through the ports, then can someone >> point me in the right direction to get version 5.8.7 installed ?? >> >> * I have perl-5.8.7.tbz download from the net, but I can't figure out how to >> install it. > > You have a (very) out of date ports tree. 5.8.7 was added to the tree over 2 > months ago. -- Shane Ambler Sales Department 007Marketing.com Shane@007Marketing.com
