Hi, I'm a newbie to linux i'm affraid. I've had my redhat 7.2 system going for a month or so now and have been gradually learning how to use linux and set up a home network. I've now managed to get samba running as a domain controller for several windows machines, providing home directories etc. My thoughts have now turned to backup. I've got hold of a 1gb external jaz drive and an adaptec 2940AU scsi card. Everything appeared to be going ok - redhat detected the card when i booted the system and offered to configure it (I'm not sure it has been entirely successful). I downloaded iomegaware for linux, and I now have an icon on the desktop to mount the drive, except it won't mount. I get the error "mount: /dev/sda4 is not a valid block device" From reading round online I've found serveral commands that provide useful info, but I'm not sure how to procede. I'll list all I can in the hope someone can make sense of it and help me! executing "cat /proc/scsi/scsi" produces Attached devices: Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00 Vendor: SONY Model: CD-ROM CDU701 Rev: 1.0f Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02 (no sign of the adaptec card!) executing "dmesg" produces Linux version 2.4.7-10 (bhcompile@stripples.devel.redhat.com) (gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-98)) #1 Thu Sep 6 17:27:27 EDT 2001 BIOS-provided physical RAM map: BIOS-e820: 0000000000000000 - 00000000000a0000 (usable) BIOS-e820: 00000000000f0000 - 0000000000100000 (reserved) BIOS-e820: 0000000000100000 - 000000000fffe000 (usable) BIOS-e820: 000000000fffe000 - 0000000010000000 (reserved) BIOS-e820: 00000000ffe00000 - 0000000100000000 (reserved) Scanning bios EBDA for MXT signature On node 0 totalpages: 65534 zone(0): 4096 pages. zone(1): 61438 pages. zone(2): 0 pages.
