We use it heavily as a drop-in replacement and have not run into any
problems. Do you have specific concerns?

The only way a user would get this behavior is to set MYSQL_VER= 52 in
their environment. I don't understand why a user who purposely set this
would object to having the ports infrastructure respect it.
