As for FreeBSD version, it's a few hours of RELENG_5. Hold on, I think I have found a patch to fix ruby-glib2 for ruby 1.8.x.. It was insteresting that it finally complain with your patch, maybe your patch makes ruby 1.8.x to use something new. I have to leave soon and I will be able to create patch, then test it this evening when I get back.
