There's a good chance this is a result of bad hardware, either the
switch or your PS/2 mouse port acting flakey.  However, a workaround
may exist; instead of having X user /dev/psm0, you should run the
'moused' daemon, then whenever the mouse becomes unresponsive you
can kill and restart moused.  I'm not sure it will help you out,
but when the NT folk over here would steal my mouse it worked when
simply plugging the mouse back in didn't.
