Well, Chimera 1.63 not only works on 1.1.5 but didn't require any patching. Though the authors make the same mistake as NCSA: you can't use a 14 point fixed font with a 12 point variable width font and expect it to look any good. Anyway... one thing Chimera supports is external URL handlers. So you could set up a "man:" handler and handle "man:" URLs. If lynx can do this to there's no need to have a httpd installed to link outside the HTML docs.
