Roman,

I don't run TMDA, but I believe you are correct (on the surface).

I see no reason why this wouldn't work on a box where your mail is
retrieved with 'fetchmail'.  Fetchmail grabs your pop3/imap/etc... email
and delivers it to your local smtp, at which point TMDA should be able to
kick in.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

p.s.  To me it looks like TMDA adds more hassle than is proposes to solve.
Just my 2 cents.
