This may be a question for news.software.b, but I'll try here first.

The default setup script used when installing the trn port defaults
to 'y' when asked if the local machine keeps an accurate active.times
file. It also defaults to 'y' when asking if trn is being installed
to read news via NNTP.

I was under the impression that an active.times file is only used by
software like INN and CNews. I was further under the impression that
INN and CNews were only really useful for running local newsfeeds, or
being fed by another host.

If reading news via NNTP, then, why would one want to run INN or
CNews to keep an up-to-date active.times file? The only reason I
installed INN was to get a copy of inews. I don't run any other parts
of the system because I don't receive a local newsfeed. On a scale of
1 to 10, how confused am I?

Cheers,
