The closest you're going to get to FreeBSD is the Mac OS X beta that's been released. I have no idea what it would take to convince the thing not to start the Mac GUI and start X instaead. I'd live to try if someone would loan me one, though :-). Other than that, try NetBSD or OpenBSD . Both support PPC platforms, if not the G4. If that fails, try the Linux distros.
