I do not see anything like the problem you describe.  Everything works
fine for me, except for the error message about not being able to read
from /dev/acd0c.  And I put in a lot of hours yesterday running vmware
and switching back-and-forth between different virtual machines.
(someday I have to figure out how to get it so I can run two virtual
machines at the same time...)

I do know that some of the vmware2-related ports are a little flaky,
and when upgrading them (mainly rtc, I think) I sometimes have to
completely deinstall the old port and then make & install the new
one to get it to work right.

Now I tend to use 'portupgrade', and let hit handle things for me.
