With a single 2940UW and everything SCSI, I can burn a CD in an
xterm window on the fly, ie. not from an image file, while doing
a level 0 dump of all three of my hard drives.  Even with
/etc/daily kicking in in the middle of the burn.  

Don't let the horrors of the M$ weenies scare you away.  With a
real OS it just works.  :)
