I think your problem is unrelated, and has to do with drawing rendered fonts. My issue is with every pixel on the screen, al the time.... I have tried with little success to take a photo of it, so I'll resort to ASCII art to try to clarify what I mean..... The lovely default X background is a pattern like this (o for black, x for white): oooxoooxooox oxoooxoooxoo ooxoooxoooxo xoooxoooxooo oooxoooxooox oxoooxoooxoo What I see is (adding c for cyan, m for magenta): oocxoocxoocx cxoocxoocxoo ooxmooxmooxm xmooxmooxmoo oocxoocxoocx cxoocxoocxoo (from memory).
