Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-arch@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG It was suggested to me today that having an /etc/mergemaster.conf file would be desirable. There is already support for $HOME/.mergemasterrc, so adding support to read /etc/mergemaster.conf would be easy, but I've never thought it was really needed. My questions are: 1. Would this be useful? 2. Should there be a blank file (with comments) committed to /usr/src/etc? 3. Another possibility would be to make a directory in /etc/ which could contain the conf file, and example scripts to demonstrate how to always install (or not install) certain files, etc. The reason I suggest this is that this is an often requested addition to mm, but it's better done outside the script itself because IMO there are just too many different possible combinations, and there are already too many options to what's supposed to be a simple program. The fact that I think it's a horrible idea also enters into it. :) I think the idea has merit, but my feelings won't be hurt if the consensus is against the proposal. I eagerly await your comments and suggestions. Doug To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-arch" in the body of the message
