Sorry, I misspelled the first time: I know this sounds too simple to be the case, but did you select to install mail? The installer lets you choose what you do and do not want... I will try | to find it and post it. Well, no go for me. I just ran as root, and no change. Their is no indication of mail anywhere: in the menus, icons, or preferences. The KB shortcut even skip it (ctrl 1 to ctrl 4).
