If the primary links we provide don't work for some reason (max connects reached, unbearably slow, etc) the user could just click the back button, select the list of mirrors link, and they're on their way. If there are any difficulties with ftp.freebsd.org with the current setup what to do as a workaround isn't easy for someone to figure out given the pathway they used.
