I think you have fallen into the Open Group's trap. UNIX is a trademark
name and in order for an operating system to be called UNIX, it has to
meet the Open Group's specifications. I believe all of those are
"officially" UNIX. BSD was where probably most UNIX development occured
during the 80's, and hence had a major influence on many of those (for
instance, SUN prior to its first release of Solaris, was *very* BSD-ish.)
At any rate, I am going to guess, from IBM's response and the fact that
they didn't take the obvious route (asking if it followed BSD) tends to
indicate to me that they only support the "single UNIX standard" as the
Open Group calls it.  I believe that is all I am really comfortable with
saying. Others here might be able to provide more valuable insite.
