Subject:   slow system startup; recovering vi sessions

Hello,
My freebsd 5.4 is taking about 5-7 minutes to
start/restart because it tries to recover the crashed
vi sessions. 
Is there a way to bring it out of this cycle of
recovery so that the system boots faster.
