While we are all aware of the constaint pain it gives users. I'm sure you are kidding and you just forgot to add a smiley to your text. For what its worth, we're using PAM for lots of things, including authenticating our POP and IMAP users from a MySQL database. We also manage FTP access to our customer web server through PAM (the passwords are again kept in a MySQL database for easy maintenance).
