Mother Teresa is very deserving of praise, too.  It seems to me that we
ought to be able to praise Doug for his willingness to help others without
taking anything away from the others who have devoted so much effort to
making life better for the rest of us in other ways.

I can certainly support the sentiment expressed here.  FreeBSD is a very
impressive piece of work, and everyone associated with it has cause to be
proud of the result.  If it were not for this team (and others like them
who contribute to the other free unices), most of us would be using Uncle
Bill's OSes, and THAT'S a scary thought.
