ia64 GENERIC kernel config. file doesn't include `options PREEMPTION'.
Alpha GENERIC kernel config. file has this warning:

 # PREEMPTION appears to have a negative impact on stability
 # (locking related panics) at least on SMP machines.

Does the same advice apply to ia64?
