this is ok.  does somebody know the best place to flash the following
statement:  "don't use make(1)s `-v' flag in port installs, because it will
carry through to GNUs gmake(1) in $MAKEFLAGS.  gmake would then immediately
quit doing anything besides showing its version string!"?
