Have you tried hitting 'return' at that point to update the prompt?  
Sometimes ppp gets slow about it. 

I'm inclined to think that it's an authentication problem, though.  Try 
turning on some logging with 'set debug xxx' where xxx is some log 
level.  

This may be the Sun interaction problem.
