For some reason I enjoy messing around with FreeBSD a lot more than I did Linux. My FreeBSD install is currently on a Gateway 7326GZ (Intel) Laptop. So far, everything is working as it should except I get no volume when playing audio files and I really don't know where to start with my recently acquired Sony Ericsson GC83 cellular wireless card. Because I can do without audio, for now, I would like to see if anyone can assist me in getting my GC83 card working. It seems that the system recognizes the card and sets it up as /dev/pccard0.cis. [** dmesg output **] sio4: at port 0x3e8-0x3ef irq 17 function 0 config 32 on pccard0 sio4: type 16550A sio4: unable to activate interrupt in fast mode - using normal mode I don't know how to get rid of the "using normal mode" above. I have done plenty of browsing and can't seem to find anyone with a similar issue to mine. I have also found a tutorial for using this exact card on Linux located here: http://advantedgecomputing.com/opensource/gc83linux.html I followed the tutorial, modified the /etc/ppp/peers/cingular file to use the device /dev/pccard0.cis and had to comment out the user, password, and usepeerdns lines because pppd complained that those were not valid options. I also corrected the path to the chat program (/usr/bin/chat instead of /usr/sbin/chat). The program fires off and immediately returns the following errors in /var/log/messages: [** /var/log/messages **] Jan 13 16:55:34 xtop pppd[849]: pppd 2.3.5 started by cross, uid 0 Jan 13 16:55:34 xtop pppd[849]: Couldn't reset non-blocking mode on device: Inappropriate ioctl for device Jan 13 16:55:34 xtop pppd[849]: tcgetattr: Inappropriate ioctl for device I know this will be a somewhat difficult issue for someone to troubleshoot since this pccard is not that common. However, if I am messing up somewhere with the ppp peers configuration or chat commands, someone out there may be able to assist me. I do not know if this is a hardware, software, or configuration issue. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I am attaching my dmesg output since that seems to be a pretty common request to trouble shoot any issue. If any other information is necessary to assist you in assisting me, please let me know and I will get it to you as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.
