I don't know what the solution to your problem is, but to get the version of aic7xxx currently loaded, do: cat /proc/scsi/aic7xxx/0|less Mine shows the driver version and a lot of other info, e.g.: Adaptec AIC7xxx driver version: 5.1.28/3.2.4 Compile Options: TCQ Enabled By Default : Disabled AIC7XXX_PROC_STATS : Enabled AIC7XXX_RESET_DELAY : 5 Adapter Configuration: SCSI Adapter: Adaptec AHA-294X Ultra2 SCSI host adapter Ultra-2 LVD/SE Wide Controller at PCI 0/11/0 PCI MMAPed I/O Base: 0xeffff000 Adapter SEEPROM Config: SEEPROM found and used. My Adaptec 2940U2W isn't working either (isn't communicating correctly to the CDRW).
