If you have some spare time, I'd really be interested in how the new SCHED_ULE scheduler compares against the traditional (default) SCHED_4BSD scheduler (although SCHED_ULE has been designed for SMP, some UP results are sure nice to have). Regarding performance tuning: did you already look at accf_http(9) and/or accf_data(9)?
