Regarding the swap space sizing issue:

The total VM space is approx (amount of memory) + (amount of swap).  You
do not need to size swap space along with memory.  A good guess on the
required amount of swap space is the sum of the total virtual space
that is active in all processes.  Of course, you have less than that,
but the small amount of swap space just limits the size
of the programs that you can run to the amount of memory plus swap.
