I have been trying to install FreeBSD over 56k modem (slow, I know, but I don't
have a credit card, so I can't get the CD, and I've had trouble getting the
book.) For some reason, I can't seem to dial in.

My modem is a USR hardware modem, on COM2. I boot the install floppies, and
everything goes fine, until I try to dial in. When I flip to the dial in
screen, I am presented with the following:

> Working in interactive mode
> Using interface: tun0
> Warning: No default entry found in config file
> Phase: PPP started (interactive mode)
> PPP ON lon>

I type 'dial', it says it's dialing, but I can tell it's not, because the light
on my phone which indicates the extention is in use doesn't come on. After a
brief pause, I get:

> Warning: Chat script failed

Then it hangs up. When I flip to the error message screen, I see:

> ifconfig: interface ppp0 does not exist
> ppp0: not found
> exiting

I've determined that this message comes up after I select the device as ppp
device on COM2, and I say yes to DHCP. I need to say yes here because my ISP
assigns IP addresses dynamically.

Is the lack of a default entry in the config file a problem? If so, how do I
fix it? I've been through the install program a few times, and I don't even
see where it would let you into the config file, or where you can tell it to
set up ppp0.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Mark
