You can find a link to the sample Chapter regarding system performance here at http://www.absolutebsd.com I've found the rest of the book to be rather good as well. But if nothing else, that sample chapter alone should give you a pretty good idea of what's going on. Hope this helps. -Chris "From : John Fox To : freebsd-questions@freebsd.org Subject : Huge load average on mail server Date : Wed, 23 Jul 2003 14:37:46 -0700 MIME-Version: 1.0 Precedence: list Message-ID: <20030723213746.GT63060@mind.net> Message: 19 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii MIME-Version: 1.0Precedence: listMessage-ID: <20030723213746.GT63060@mind.net>Message: 19 I recently became responsible for our mail server, and lately, the load average on the thing has been running consistently high, in mid-20's to mid-30's. And at the same time, sendmail has become extremely sluggish in terms of responding to connections on port 25. There's got to be a bottleneck somewhere, but my experience leaves me ill-equipped to seek it out. What procedures would folks recommend for me to follow in order to try and determine the problem? Thank you, john" _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
