I believe you have a simlar problem when you apply service pack 3 on WIndows NT Once you applied Service Pack 3 Windows NT uses encrypted passwds I suspect Windows 2000 also uses encrypted passwds Solution:- You can either modify your registry in Windows to fix the problem you can either look at the encrypted passwords = yes option in samba and read the documentation on how to use this otpion in samba.
