Same hardware works fine with 4.9-RELEASE. Everything hangs up for fifteen seconds or so, then resumes without apparent difficulty. Problem was also observed with 5.1-RELEASE. One way to reproduce problem: install system, then do a pkg_add kde-lite-3.1.4.tbz and try to do anything on another virtual console. Other notes: 5.2-RC2 is the first FreeBSD 5.x which can boot up on my laptop, a Fujitsu Lifebook C340! Yay! However, an upgrade installa- tion still doesn't work. It doesn't panic while installing the base distribution any more, but about the time it tries installing the perl package, it thinks it has run out of disk space. In the pty4 shell, df core dumps and mount reports a few lines of " on ()". Also, acpi interferes with fdc0 and psm0. In all other respects, 5.2-RC2 is a giant step forward, and my sincere thanks to the whole FreeBSD team! dmesg output, including SCSI bus reset error message, is below. -- George Mitchell Copyright (c) 1992-2003 The FreeBSD Project.
