The following reply was made to PR ports/149851; it has been noted by GNATS. From: Heino Tiedemann <rotkap@gmx.de> To: bug-followup@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: ports/149851: vlc and mplayer - race conditions? Date: Wed, 25 Aug 2010 19:56:47 +0200 this toppic seems to be old: http://lists.helixcommunity.org/pipermail/video-issues/2004-December/000009.html In my opinion: a) the mplayer initializes the XVideo extension correct, but leaves it in a "dirty" state b) the vlc player does no initialisation (to work fine) but it leaves the XVideo extension in a corrct state (means unchanged) Finally - both players should be fixed: a) the mplayer should set the state of XVideo extension into the default state after finishing b) the vlc player should initialize the XVideo extension correct - maype another player crashed so an initialisation is needed
