What you are probably looking for is startkde, which will startup kde on the current $DISPLAY defined X server. $DISPLAY should of course be set to host:0.0 CJ van den Berg P.S. KDE runs great remote on a LAN, but it uses way too much bandwidth for a low bandwidth connection. If you're running over the net or dialup use TightVNC or Xvnc as others have suggested.
